NORTH CYPRUS
NORTH CYPRUS has become my favourite holiday destination since I first visited in 2008.
If you want a quiet peaceful holiday...away from the noisy "lager louts"....then this is the place for you......especially if you are in the "older" age group.
Hotels have their entertainment...but not all night discos.
Also.....if you happen to like a bit of gambling....most hotels have a Casino attached to them. I myself have not been into the casinos...but I guess they do a good business...as there are always posh cars and/or stretch limousines parked outside.

Cyprus has two parts.....the Greek side in the south, and the Turkish side in the north.
It is part of Turkey, (TRNC...Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) but is not recognised internationally as a country.
You cannot fly directly to Ercan airport (i.e. the North Cyprus main airport) from the UK, without the plane touching down in a Turkish airport....and then after about 45 minutes while some passengers disembark and more get on...the journey continues to Ercan. Passengers for Ercan stayed onboard.
But last year (2016) changes were made.....the plane still has to touch down in Turkey, but all passengers must disembark and go through security before getting back on a different plane....or maybe the same one...I don't know.
This is what I read about this procedure, as I have not made the journey this year.
It will make the already long flight, even longer, with at least an hour in Turkey.
There is an alternative way to fly directly to Larnaca in the south, but the airport transfer is much longer.....about 90 minutes to Kyrenia....whereas the transfer from Ercan is only 30 minutes.
Also, Larnaca is a much bigger airport than Ercan.
Ercan is so easy to go through...no long waiting time to collect your baggage, as is likely at Larnaca.
Ercan has also been updated to a nice modern airport now.
SO....to sum it up, you will see that I prefer to fly to Ercan......but when I go next time, I may fly directly to Larnaca, as I am a little scared about having to go into the Turkish airport. .......which I think a lot of other people may feel the same way.
